  • Fabric - Surprise in my mailbox :)

Went on Etsy.com, and found a lady who sells Amy Butler fabrics and some other great fabric designers, and she offers a "surprise in my mailbox" option where she sends different sized pieces of random fabrics in her shop.  I am SO happy with what came in my mailbox today! Perfect options for my applique project.  Check it out:

  • Happy Valentine's Day!

I have been sick all week and have barely been running (shame on me) and to make matters worse, I had a V-day date (with myself) at In-n-Out for lunch today.

When I got home my sis-in-law and big brother had dropped off some roses, and chocolates.... so let's just continue with this theme.

I found the "sad clown" painting at a thrift store yesterday. $15 and I love it (at the moment - one of my passing fancies I'm sure...).  My favorite song is "An Ode to Sad Clown" by Joe Purdy and Brian Wright, and there is something about the cheerful colors combined with the sadness of the face...

"..and i got caught in this whistling wind,
doin my best to regret these sins.
    Lord, would you forgive me,
if you know i'm gonna do it again?
its not that i'm not sorry Lord,
its just that im not strong..."

Joe Purdy, Ode to a Sad Clown

The new sewing machine (i dubbed her "mega") does some pretty cool embroidery work.  So far I made a blanket for my friend Marla who is expecting a baby soon, and a birthday present (bathrobe) for my friend JT.  The bathrobe was another TJMaxx find.  It was originally a $90 robe... super soft.  It was missing a belt and had been marked for red tag clearance.. so I washed it up, sewed a blue belt to match the embroidery thread... and Voila - $12.  Priceless.

    Applique-heyyyyyy

I have a lot of plain old jersey dresses, hoodies, etc., that I would love to restyle.  I came across these two pictures on topshop's website and was inspired:

    (cool heart appliques!)

(love the heart/bird applique in the bottom right corner!)

Then I went on Etsy and found some applique designs I can download on the computer and use on the new mega-machine.

I decided I love Amy Butler's fabric designs, so I ordered a big bundle of fabric scraps from her materials and can't wait to use it to applique some of those little birdies and some hearts on my old duds.

Another cool thing I can do with the fabric scraps...

Once I've gotten the fabrics and started the project, I'll post some more pics.
